Lantern Forest: Return to Innocence

Feb 22 - Mar 21, 2010
Shadbolt Centre for the Arts

Winning much appreciation, now a selection of the most ingenious designs from the Lantern Forest in Downtown Vancouver will continue to be showcased at Burnaby.

Jan 22 - Feb 28, 2010
Granville St, Downtown

Back by popular demand, 2010 LunarFest again engages children from diverse backgrounds to design lanterns that will be hung on steel trees forming the Lantern Forest. Bringing together the grassroots community spirit together with the diversity of cultures in Vancouver, these glowing constellations of lanterns are chosen from thousands of submissions by school children from Taiwan and Canada. Although they are from different cultural backgrounds, they all take pride in their cultural heritages while pledge for greener earth with the world. While only some are chosen to be made into lanterns, all children’s design can be browsed on the website and on the LED screen thus making the exchange without boundaries.

Serving as the landmark in the forest, the world’s first Totem Lanterns with Canadian and Taiwanese indigenous designs such as the salmons of Canada and flying fishes of Taiwan will greet the spectators in town with the spirit of 2010 Winter Olympics.
